OmniBot 1:

This robot uses special omnidirectional wheels that allow it to travel in any direction. It's constructed with lego parts that are attached to a hexagonal chassis and uses three motors, each driving one wheel. The controller is the EasyMind lego brick and it has spaces to attach six infra red range finders, one on each face of the hexagon.

The combination of the sensors and special wheels mean that the robot can be programmed to move away from any obstacle it detects.
