Academic Work

Status

I am (just about still) a DPhil student in the Natural Language Processing (NLP) Research Group in COGS at the University of Sussex. My DPhil was attached to the PSET project (Practical Simplification of English Text). Some software derived from my work on the project can be found here on the Software Page.

Research Interests

My main research interest is the use of taxonomies in collocation extraction. Feel free to view a list of my publications.

Background

I studied for four years in Churchill College at the University of Cambridge. For the first three, I read Computer Science followed by an MPhil in Computer, Speech and Language Processing. (This course has since been updated to Computer Speech, Text and Internet Technology.)

Other Academic Pursuits

One of my passions is teaching. Since the start of my DPhil, I have devoted a lot of time to seminars, marking and lecturing for a variety of courses. The pages for many of these courses are out of date and hence unlinked. If, for some reason, you would like to see the old information, please email me. found via the following links:

I also spent a few years part-time lecturing at Brighton College of Technology. Click here for some related resources.
